I hate a cliffhanger for all the right reasons just like the next guy, but for shows I don’t follow religiously, i.e. Grey’s, I figured a spoiler would be kind of fun.
Marc Malkin of E! has learned through his mysterious sources that T.R. Knight is signing out of Seattle Grace.
In the season finale, Knight’s character George was flatlining after being (fatally) injured in a bus accident. Simultaneously, Katherine Heigl’s character, Izzie, was flatlining after a bout with cancer. We knew at least one of them would die over the summer hiatus (if not both), but we weren’t sure which.
Side note: I watched 35 minutes of Grey’s Anatomy this season. Those 35 minutes were the final 35 minutes of the two-hour season finale, and I am fully caught up. Just sayin’.
Both Knight and Heigl have expressed their discontent with the series for a few years. Heigl removed her name from Emmy contention last year after saying the writing wasn’t strong enough for her to be considered. A few months ago, Knight asked to be released from his contract.
The fate of Izzie is allegedly still up in the air. Could Seattle Grace lose two attendings in one day? It’s quite possible, as creator Shonda Rhimes has been thinking about the death of Dr. Stevens.
